About the book

My vision for this book was to create something visually and poetically lovely, as well as being helpful emotionally and practically to the bereaved. While taking a sabbatical leave from my position as a Pastoral counsellor, I went to my favourite secluded bolt-hole on Rakino Island, in the Hauraki Gulf. There I found the profound quiet and long days a wonderful environment in which to compile excerpts from my own journals, find inspirational quotes, and weave it all together in what is my first publication. I hope you find it both helpful and inspiring.

About the Author

Sheryl is a counsellor who works in a Pastoral Care team in a church called LIFE, where she is privileged to be a listening ear and helper to many people facing various life trials.

Sheryl was born in Te Kopuru, Dargaville and lived in Whangarei from the age of 5 for many years. Sheryl and her husband Kevin lived in Papua New Guinea for 3 years but returned to Whangarei where they created manufacturing and retail businesses, in which they often worked together. Sheryl supported her mum after the loss of her husband, Sheryl's dad, to liver cancer. She looked after her mother at home while she was terminally ill. Not long after her mother passed away, her husband Kevin was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour, he lost his battle with this disease 19 months later. Two years after losing her husband she moved to Auckland to complete her studies and construct a new life. Subsequently her only sibling and brother Lyndsay died after a short battle with bowel and liver cancer. Tragically her dear friend Liz passed away from the same disease not long after that.
In the past few years she fell in love with Rob and they have just celebrated their second wedding anniversary. She has three grown up children, who have brought wonderful son and daughter-in-laws into her life and consequently three gorgeous grandchildren (so far!).
Sheryl and Rob are always busy working on various projects, including doing up an old holiday home on Rakino Island. They live with their Tonkinese cat George, and are blessed with many good friends and family.
